Ever noticed how some Tudor watches look surprisingly similar to Rolex watches? Take this Tudor Oyster case for instants it looks suspiciously like the semi Rolex bubble back. In fact, they are exactly the same. The whole idea of Wilsdorf and Davis, the founder of Rolex was to create a sub brand that would not cost you an arm and a leg, yet deliver a very fine watch. They also used Rolex crowns on Tudor watches. I have taken a close-up of the original crown on this Tudor which reads Rolex Oyster. Tudor was registered in 1926, the same year they introduced the Oyster models. From origin this is a water-resistant case, but I wouldn’t recommend swimming with it.
The AS 1250 caliber automatic bumper movement may look quite standard, however it is equipped with a Breguet balance which you only find in the more luxurious watches. The reference number of the Tudor is 951.
Above the Tudor mark on the dial you see the unmistakable rose logo, in this case designed within a shield shape, there are several variations, with a small or large rose, or on the later Tudor’s dials simply a shield shape. Enough about the dial, though I must say it looks like a spitting image of a Rolex, dial, very finely printed.
This handsome timekeeper can be yours for a fraction of a bubble back price.
