Henri Frédéric Sandoz was a very skillful watchmaker and cunning businessman. He founded the Tavannes Watch Company in 1891 in a small Swiss village. And like many other brands typically called the name of their brand after the place it was founded in, Tavannes is no exception to the rule. The Tavannes Watch Co. soon turned the village into a large watchmaking center. Shortly thereafter they expanded to the USA, Canada, Russia and Far East. Tavannes also manufactured watch movements for high end brand such as Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Hermès, Dunhill and Zenith.
And now to the stunning Art Deco pocket/travel watch at hand. It is such a well-designed, perfectly functioning scrumptious travel watch in an amazing condition. It has clearly been cherished, and used with the utmost care. You can close and open it with the slightest effort, you just push the lever downwards and the top-half of the case pops open, and when you shut the case it clicks securely in place. The thick case is made of a high purity silver 925, with a red and cream colored lizard skin. Ticking away the time inside you will find the lovely high quality Swiss patented Tavannes caliber 816 with a ‘Geneva Stripe’ finish. The serial number on the movement suggest the Tavannes dates from 1937.
