The Bulova brand was named after its founder Joseph Bulova a young Czech Immigrant that started out as a jeweler in 1875 on one of New Yorks oldest streets, namely ‘Maiden Lane’. Maiden Lane stems from the Dutch abbreviation of ‘Maagde Paatje’, once a red light district, now a thriving commercial hub.
Bulova’s most significant achievement is the creation of the very first electronic watch ever to be made. Named, ‘tunning-fork’, this system actually replaces the balance and hairspring within the movement. Because if its highly accurate and reliable timekeeping the Bulova Accutron was used on the Explorer, Tiros, Telstar and on Syncom satellites.
Bulova stived to manufacture watches that could be easily maintained by watchmakers, and they were the first to make watch parts that were completely interchangeability.
The Bulova Accutron Deep Sea 666 feet is a big bold beast of a watch, and check out the crystal, it sits on top like a large thick acrylic bubble, not surprising though with the depths it needed to withstand. It has definitely seen some action in its time, yet it is humming away ready for its new adventure. No more deep diving, only fun above water.
