The Royal Dutch Airlines otherwise known as KLM chose Marvin to provide their flight crew with watches. Pilots received the ‘Flying Dutchman’ wristwatch, and the stewardesses were provided with a clip-on watch, similar the Marvins tyre clip.
This all took place in the mid 1950’s, the catalyst behind the generous gifts by KLM to its flight crew was to celebrate their long distance voyages and the extra endurance it would have on the airline crew, especially the pilots. Marvin was simply ‘Over the Moon’ to have been chosen to provide for such a famous airline, especially KLM in their high tide days. Marvin concentrated all their time and effort to the manufacture of the KLM timepieces in those days. Despite this all Marvin isn’t one of the most well-known brands, but it’s achievements cannot be underestimated. Because not only KLM came knocking on Marvins door, but so did Ferrari, Mercedes, Jaguar, MG, Rover and Chevrolet and even Fiat.
The Flying Dutchman has definitely seen some flight action, but doesn’t that actually add to its charm? It’s all original with, untouched case, crown with logo, the dial has the distinctive sunburst design with raised crown logo, dauphine shaped hands and beautiful Thunderbird index bezel. Besides Flying Dutchman the dial also reads Hermetic meaning watertight, which has no bearing after seventy years.
We added a chocolate brown canvas, soft to wear (easy swap) strap. Because of its warm color makes the stainless steel look more intense/brighter.
