Cyma was founded in the town of Jura, Switzerland. Since 1862 they developed high-quality, innovative watches. Cyma & Tavannes is a former Swiss watchmaking company that was created when two separate companies merged in 1903.
During the early 1940’s they turned their attention to the engineering of automatic bumper movements. The 420 caliber was their very first bumper automatic, launched in 1943.
Early automatic movements, are called ‘Bumpers’ as the rotor ‘bumps’ back and forth between two springs maintaining the power within the movement. The bumper stops on the 420 caliber, look like train stops 😉, they are huge, especially in compassion to the size of the movement. This explains the inscription on the case back which reads; Shock-Absorber.
The Cyma is a ‘Watersport” edition, but please, please keep it far from water. The beautiful black dial has aged evenly, and carries the raised C logo. We added an animal friendly 18mm black canvas strap.
It has been freshly serviced, tuned and adjusted.
Keep in mind though that all mechanical watches benefit from regular servicing, dirt, dust and old
non-synthetic lubricant can accumulate in the movement and it can actually cause damage believe it or not.
