The history of the Eterna-Matic 'KonTiki' is an amazing and exciting voyage.
It was Thor Heyerdahl a 33 years old Norwegian explorer, archaeologist, writer and anthropologist who instigated this event, simply to prove his theory. On the 28th of April 1947, he sailed out on his balsa wooden raft from Callao, Peru to his destination Polynesia. The theory was based on the fact that traces of the cult of Kon-Tiki Viracocha, an indigenous God, who, according to legend, sailed westwards from Peru on a big balsa wood raft, were found on the Polynesian islands.
To cut a long story short the expedition was a success. South Americans could well have travelled to the Polynesian islands by balsa raft. All the crew members were provided with a reliable, durable Eterna wristwatches during the voyage. Unlike the raft, the 'Kontiki' came though the ordeal with flying colors.
Thor Heyerdahl, won an Oscar in 1952 for his achievement, and in 1958 'KonTiki'. was launched.

With such a fascinating adventure behind KonTiki' makes it’s hard to resist.
It's a handsome devil, with its pitchblack unblemished dial, sleek lined case and stunning 1420U caliber automatic movement beating away inside. The stainless still case carries the gold ‘Kontiki’ emblem in the shape of a medallion on back. We added an original vintage rubber Shark strap to the 'KonTiki'.
A watch is considered timeless when its design, craftsmanship, and functionality endure the test of time…I think the ‘KonTiki’ fits the bill nicely.
