The name of “Movado” was discovered in 1903 in the Esperanto dictionary and means “Always in motion”. (Esperanto is the world's most widely spoken constructed international auxiliary language).
Movado is such a lovely yet sadly a rather underappreciated Swiss brand, it most definitely deserves to be up there with Omega and Longines. But times are changing for Movado and it has quietly been surging in the recent years, elevating the brand status among collectors.
The Movado Calendograf was promoted at the 1940’s World Fair in New York and at Basel watch fairs throughout the 1940s. It was considered one of their most important models, heck even Andy Warhol owned one as did Winston Churchill, though Churchill received it as a token of appreciation from the Swiss citizens in 1946.
Calendograf otherwise known as triple calendar, gives you virtually everything you need except for a moon-phase; the hour, minute, second, day of the week, date and month.
This Movado Calendograf is powered by the high quality, trustworthy manually wind caliber 470 with sub second. With the two pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock you can operate the date and month, the day is operated with use of the crown.
The stainless steel case has ridged sides, a stepped bezel and ‘turtle-leg’ shaped mat/glossy lugs. The original dial is two-tone and the indexes are black except for the outer date calendar which are a nice shade of blue. The Arabic numerals, dots and hands are luminous.
It’s a beautiful bulky watch, with a lot of extra’s and a good size 34mm and approximately 41.5 from lug to lug end. The watch has been professionally cleaned, oiled, timed and regulated and is sold with 1 year warranty.
