With the holidays just around the corner this could be a nice addition to your collection, or a fun watch to wear when you’re relaxing after a cycle tour around the countryside, with or without a yellow jersey The Pontiac watch brand has a rich history. It was introduced in 1931 by the Dutchman Ali Kinsbergen, their goal was to make trustworthy watches for affordable prices. Pontiac really kicked off after the accident of the Dutch cyclist Wim van Elst during the 1951 Tour de France. Pontiac launched a large campaign using the misfortune of Wim van Elst to prove Pontiac a winner. Who doesn’t remember the slogan: 'I fell seventy meters deep, my heart stopped, but my Pontiac ran’ and ”Tic Tac Pontiac” this set Pontiac in a whole new daylight, Pontiac was here to stay.
Now available in our webstore is this 20 micron yellow gold plated Swiss Made Pontiac “Maillot Jaune” (yellow jersey) - Tour de France wristwatch dating from the1950’s. Not only does this Pontiac have a magnificent case, the dial and indexes are pretty amazing as well. The two-tone dial consists of raised circles, that bend downwards where the chunky indexes begin. It has pointy index shape hands and a sweeping centered hand ending in an arrow tip. The hands and indexes are lumed. The sunken crown is signed Pontiac in full with a star logo. The Pontiac is in an amazing condition, with minimal sights of wear. This Pontiac watch has obviously been treasured by its previous owner(s). It carries the ETA 2390 caliber movement which is the follow up to the ETA 1080 both very reliable movements used by many well-known brands. The watch has been completely serviced and is working perfectly. We added a ‘Brunette brown’ animal friendly artificial leather strap, which suits the watch and the time period quite well.
