Leonidas watch factory was founded in 1841, after 120 years the Leonidas factory joined forces with Heuer, and the name Heuer was simply added, so for many years they were used together as ‘Heuer Leonidas’ SA. However, once Heuer became TAG-Heuer SA Leonidas vanished.
Besides excellent chronograph movements, Leonidas also manufactured instruments for space/aircrafts and automobiles.
This 1940’s Swiss made Leonidas Chronograph has a black ‘gilt’ dial, the term ‘gilt’ dial obviously refers to the gold-colored indexes on the dial. This is a rather new, already frequently used phrase nowadays.
The chronograph watch is powered by the Valjoux 23 caliber movement, which is a well-known high quality pillar wheel movement.
The Leonidas is looking quilt amazing after some TLC from Frank Impens, the in the house watchmaker and co-owner of Tijdloos vof. The chrono is carried straight from his more than capable hands into the shop window and online after a complete overhaul, consisting of an extensive cleaning, thorough inspection, fine tuning, and a long trial session.
