Bulova's Accutron tuning fork was ‘set in motion’ in 1960, it was rapidly established that these out of the ordinary futuristic time machines with electronic technology were to become the most accurate movements invented by man. Almost unimaginable that after centuries of mechanical watchmaking, that this would create such a huge turning point. 
The production of the 214 caliber began in November 1960, there were several variations  invented over the years and in 1968 the 2141 was introduced. The Accutron ran on a revolutionary new technology that made use of a 360-Hertz tuning fork, powered by an electronic oscillator, unlike the traditional balance wheel of a mechanical watch movement. So, no more winding, just slip it on your wrist and off you go, not surprising that the tuning fork became such a hit. Due to their utmost accuracy the tuning fork movements soon became a blessing in disguise for the railroads and in 1962 the first Bulova Accutron Railroad watches were taken into use,  beginning with pocket watches, which were soon exchanged for wristwatches.
This example is an original from 1973, and is found in superb unpolished all original condition. To own and wear a Bulova Accutron Railroad or any tuning fork for that matter you have a remarkable piece of history that brought about many changes for the watch industry.
