Svalan is a ‘Swiss Made’ brand especially manufactured in Switzerland by ASUAG (Allgemeine Schweizerische Uhrenindustrie AG) for the Swedish market. However they fitted the watches with their own dials that suited the Swedish market. The firm B.S. Hüttner launched Svalan in 1930 in Gothenburg, Zweden, in the long run it turned out to be their most successful brand. Svalan watches were widely distributed within the Scandinavian market during their heydays in the 1950’s and 60’s. There is very little information to be found about the B.S. Hüttner firm, rather surprising though, as it was considered the ‘crème de la crème’ in Sweden, certainly amongst the watch collectors. Svalan, means swallow, which was the theme of the man behind the popular Swedish design wristwatches Otto Jansson.
This mid 1950’s Svalan ‘Sportsman’ watch has a striking bronze & black bullseye/tuxedo dial. The dial has marbleized beautifully, though I must ad that the photos exaggerate slightly. The A.Schild-AS is equipped with an earthquake-resistant device, a machine that is worthy of the pride of a sportsman Initially, AS 1130 movements met the requirements imposed by the military.
We added a 18mm black canvas animal friendly strap.
It's a steal for only €595.- ツ
