The Movado Ermeto went ‘out on a limb’ on this utterly genius invention.
Thinking out of the box, or rather inside in this case 😉 This portable pocket watch with sliding case was heavily advertised in those days, late twenties, early thirties. They boasted about its durability in all sorts of events and conditions, though they did go a tad overboard claiming you could drive your car over an Ermeto and it would still be ticking away the time. The ads paid off in triple by making the Movado Emeto an international success. Over the years they made several improvements on the movement by adding complications, and they improved the functioning of the case.
The Movado at hand is an early model as it needs to be manually wound, and the fact that the case is made of sterling silver. The original dial is impeccable, almost to good to be true. Besides Movado Chronomètre it also reads ‘A L'Emeraude Lausanne’ a luxury boutique which was all about jewelry, watchmaking and luxury goods for the rich and famous, even royalty was amongst their clientele. That several high-end retailers distributed Ermeto watches says a lot about the exquisite quality.
